Elastic Addressing

Our network design brings the flexibility of public cloud network to bare metal. With a full layer 3 "routed" network, we offer API or BGP enabled elastic addressing capabilities both within an availability zone and across them.

Bring Your Own IP Space

Packet supports announcing custom IP space (/24 or greater), routing all traffic out through a colocation or extranet provider, and private backend between all facilities.  Access your Packet server infrastructure via direct cross connect at popular carrier hotels or via a cloud exchange.

BGP/Anycast

Tap into BGP to power container workloads and other dynamic orchestration systems.  For multi-location deployments, we support anycast network announcements.

Each Packet cloud location is connected via redundant dark fiber paths to leading carrier hotels, peering platforms and private interconnection partners. Packet has pioneered the deployment of highly reliable, low-cost metro optical systems to provide massive capacity to our backbone at a great price point to our end users. Our in-house DDoS detection and mitigation technology also ensures that our network can withstand large scale traffic events.

Packet's network is engineered for production workloads. In addition to the high performance, redundant design of our pure layer-3 network, Packet uses big data techniques to expose insights into your traffic patterns and leverages NetFlow data to offer unique billing options like the Bandwidth Alliance, which gives discounted or free traffic to many leading CDN and content providers.

Elastic, cloud-style networking without the slow, latency-inducing overlay network? That's exactly what Packet built with it's pure layer-3 bare metal network. Each compute host is directly attached to a physical router via either 2 x 1Gbps copper or 2 x 10Gbps SFP+ connections. No software overlay networks are applied to create our elastic networking capabilities. Instead, we built sophisticated automation to dynamically build and maintain router ACL's across the network fabric, giving customers API-driven flexibility with baremetal switching performance.
